In view of some recent incidents, the Union Ministry of Road Transport has already prepared a draft rule to make it mandatory for the passengers sitting in the back seat of the car to wear seat belts.

Ordinary citizens can express their opinion on this rule till October 5. Recently, after the death of industrialist Cyrus Mistry in an accident, the central government started thinking afresh about seatbelts in the back seat.

He was sitting in the back seat of the car and Cyrus was not wearing a seatbelt. A month ago, Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari asked e-commerce companies not to sell devices that disable seat belts for rear-seat passengers.

Nitin Gadkari said that his ministry wants to reduce the number of road accidents and deaths due to accidents. Union Ministry of Road Transport is looking for ways to stop road accidents by 2024.

He also said that the central government is going to make 6 airbags mandatory in all cars within this year. Nitin Gadkari also said that this rule will be strictly enforced. Violation of the rules will be punishable severely.

According to a World Bank report last year, one person dies every four minutes in a road accident in India. Seatbelts are now mandatory in all cars even in the rear seats. From now on, a fine of 1000 taka has to be paid if the seat belt is not worn on the back seat.

According to a recent report by the Ministry of Road Transport, the number of deaths and injuries due to not wearing seat belts in 2020 was 15 thousand 146 and 39 thousand 102 respectively. According to the ministry, the government is requesting people to wear seat belts while traveling in cars. A

Besides, many videos related to seatbelts are going viral on social media. One such video surfaced a week ago, which is enough to open the eyes of drivers driving without seatbelts. This video is almost 3 years old. However, it is going viral again. The video shows a horrific car accident. But the car driver escaped. Only because of the seatbelt.

The video was recorded from the car’s dashcam. Apparently, while the car was moving on a national highway, a big truck suddenly came from the front. The car lost control due to an oncoming truck. However, as the seatbelt was fastened, the driver did not get a single scratch.

After that, the government’s message is that it is not necessary for the driver and passengers sitting in the front seat to wear seatbelts. At the same time, the passengers sitting in the back seat of the car are also required to wear seat belts.
