Draupadi was elected as the new President of India after receiving more than 50 percent of the votes after three rounds of counting on Thursday (July 21). He defeated his rival Yashwant Sinha by a huge margin.

India’s first President Rajendra Prasad won two consecutive presidential elections (1952 and 1957). Therefore Draupadi is the 15th president of the country even though it is the 16th presidential election.

With this victory, Draupadi is the successor of the outgoing President of India, Ram Nath Kovind. He will take oath as President on July 25.

Earlier, India’s 16th presidential election was held last Monday (July 18). The vote was 98.9 percent. A total of 4,797 MPs and MLAs voted in the presidential election. Counting of votes started around 11 am local time on Thursday (July 21).

According to reports in Anandabazar Patrika, Draupadi Murmu has received 2 thousand 161 votes so far and her rival Yashwant Sinha has received 1 thousand 58 votes. 5 lakh 77 thousand 777 votes were collected for Draupadi and 2 lakh 61 thousand 62 for Yashwant.

Of course, it was already imagined what the result could be. The main thing to see on this day was how many votes the NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu won. The result came forward on Thursday evening. Draupadi Murmu won by a huge margin after three rounds of counting. However, one round is still left to count. But it can be assumed that the result will not change.
