Sports Desk: UAE leg-spinner Karthik Meiyappan scored the first hat-trick in the ongoing eighth edition of the T20 World Cup held in Australia.

Meiyappan produced hat-trick magic against Sri Lanka on the fourth, fifth and sixth balls of the 15th over on Tuesday, dismissing Bhanuka Rajapakse, Charit Asalanka and Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka.
This Emirates leg spinner became the fifth player to score a hat-trick in T20 World Cup. And he scored the 39th hat-trick in international T20.

Australia’s former star pacer Brett Lee scored a hat-trick against Bangladesh in 2007. There were three hat-tricks in last year’s World Cup. Ireland’s Curtis Campher scored a hat-trick against the Netherlands, Sri Lanka’s star spinner Wanindu Hasaranga against South Africa and South Africa’s star pacer Kagiso Rabada scored a hat-trick against England.
Earlier on Tuesday, Sri Lanka’s innings stopped at 152 runs for 8 wickets. Opener Patum Nishanka scored 74 runs off 60 balls. Dhananjaya de Silver, who dropped three, came off the bat with a 21-ball 33-run innings. Apart from the top three in the top order, none could reach double figures.
