From September 1, rice will be sold in open market (OMS) through 2 thousand 13 dealers across the country. At the same time, the food-friendly program of selling rice at the rate of Tk 15 per kg will also be started.

Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder gave this information while talking to reporters in his office at the Secretariat on Sunday (August 14).

He said, ‘We are launching a food friendly program for 5 million families or 40 million people from September 1. If OMS and food friendly programs are launched together, I think the price of rice will stabilize. We have government stocks, we stock for the people. Those who will buy this rice will not have to buy rice from the market. We can trust there.’

The food minister commented that the price of rice is increasing due to some dishonest traders. He also said that quick action is being taken in this regard.

Sadhan Chandra Majumdar said, ‘We have asked the Directorate of Consumer Rights Protection to enter the field. Five monitoring committees have already been formed, they will be activated. The District Administrators have been instructed to sit here and monitor the market completely. If there is illegal stock of paddy and rice anywhere, it has been ordered to run the crash program as it was done earlier.’
