#Kolkata: He followed the calculation all his life. Gave up a lot for the game. The control over eating and drinking was severe. However, seeing biryani, many times could not contain the greed of my father’s Bengali ‘Dada’.

For the last one and a half years, he is a hundred hands away from Biryani. Earlier last year, Sourav was admitted to Alipore’s Woodland Hospital with sudden chest pain in January. And there he was diagnosed with heart problems. Two stents had to be placed. Since then, Sourav Gangopadhyay has become accustomed to living a very controlled life.

And the same Sourav Gangopadhyay in a discussion meeting in Kolkata on Wednesday in response to the question of the owner of a famous Meughlai Khana restaurant in Kolkata frankly said that he has no objection if biryani is sent to Behala’s house from that restaurant.

A function was organized by Bengal Peerless at a five-star hotel in Kolkata on Wednesday to mark Azadi Ki Amrit Mohotsav, 75 years of Independence and 150th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. It was there that Usha Uthup’s songs were launched on Netaji’s 150th birth anniversary and Saurabh Gangopadhyay’s 50th birth anniversary.

Before that, a documentary about India’s independence was screened. After that Saurabh Gangopadhyay participated in a discussion on ‘Leadership of Modern India’. Netaji researchers Anuj Dhar, Chandrachud Ghosh, Ketan Sengupta on behalf of Bengal Peerless and Shiladitya Chowdhury, owner of a famous chain restaurant in Kolkata, were there.

There, Shiladitya Chowdhury asked Sourav in various words, about eating and drinking in Sourav’s cricket life. When he went to play abroad, what did he eat? Sourav said, even if he wanted to, many things had to be controlled. At that time, the host of the program asked if Shiladitya Chowdhury’s famous restaurant Biryani Sourav had eaten!

Shiladitya said that Biriyani from his restaurant went to Sourav Behala’s house several times. Sourav’s grandfather cricketer Snehasish Gangopadhyay loved their biryani.

Although Sourav jokingly says, he cannot remember if he has eaten biryani from this restaurant before. But he can send biryani home in the future, he will try it. Then the whole hall burst into applause.
