On Sunday, Joe Biden attended an auto show opening ceremony in Detroit, the largest city in the US Midwestern state of Michigan, as the chief guest. He also gave an interview to the American news channel CBS.

In an interview, he was asked about the current Covid situation in the United States, he said to the CBS reporter, pointing to the crowd that came to enjoy the auto show, ‘You must have noticed one thing about the people here – nobody is wearing a mask here and everyone looks very cheerful. I think the situation in the country is changing. We have left behind the terrible chapter of the pandemic. The epidemic is over in the United States.’

Recently, however, the Director General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, also said that various signs of the end of the corona epidemic are already being witnessed around the world.

However, Biden’s statement was criticized by the leaders of the US opposition Republican Party. Mike Pompeo, the country’s former Secretary of State and senior leader of the Republican Party, said in a tweet on Monday, “Biden is now saying that the corona epidemic is over, but he has expelled about 10,000 members of the US military for not being vaccinated.”

In December 2019, the world’s first corona patient was detected in the city of Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. The first death from Corona also happened in China.

Then this deadly virus started spreading in different countries of the world very fast. To deal with the situation, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared a global emergency on January 20, 2020.

But as the situation did not improve, WHO finally declared Corona as an epidemic on March 11 of that year.

According to the information of various international organizations, since the beginning of the epidemic, a total of 61 crore 75 lakh 73 thousand 821 people have been infected with corona in the world and a total of 65 lakh 31 thousand 909 people have died of this disease.

But still, 400 people are dying in the country on an average every day, according to researchers from the John Hopkins University in the United States. In the last 7 days, more than 3,000 people have died of covid-related illnesses in the country.

The world’s top infectious disease specialist and head of the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Dr. Anthony Fauci said in an interview on Monday, “It is true that the number of daily infections and deaths of the corona in the United States has recently decreased, but the number of people who are still dying from this disease every day is completely unacceptable.”
